Stromer and GEWA – A Profitable Partnership
How Economic Success and Social Responsibility Go Hand in Hand
Several years ago, Stromer faced the challenge of reducing the complexity of its speed-pedelec assembly, particularly due to its strong market growth. In 2018, the company decided to relocate its entire production from Asia to its headquarters in Oberwangen near Bern. This move not only shortened transport routes but also enabled seamless quality control over the entire assembly process.
The continuous growth soon led to the necessity of expanding production capacities despite limited space. In search of a competent regional partner for outsourcing pre-assembly, Stromer came across GEWA. The core mission of this social enterprise is to empower people to find their place in the workforce or support their reintegration into the labor market. The successful collaboration began in 2019.
"Not only did the logistical expertise and short transport routes speak in favor of the cooperation," explains Rolf Frankowski, COO at Stromer. "GEWA bridges the gap between social commitment, economic demands, and the highest quality standards. This convinced us."
With this partnership, Stromer was able to significantly reduce the complexity of the assembly process and increase the production capacity of its S-pedelecs. "Another advantage is that with this project, we can simultaneously contribute to society," says Frankowski.

At GEWA, Brigitte Mösching oversees three employees in technical assembly: "We build complete front and rear wheels for Stromer and also take care of repair work. Our employees are motivated because they can work on an innovative product." Clemens Kammermann, responsible for the production process at GEWA, appreciates the work environment and is happy to be part of the assembly process of a complex and high-end product.
This partnership shows how economic growth and social responsibility can go hand in hand – benefiting all involved.
