So what is it that makes the Stromer safe? Various factors come into play here. For example, high-quality components such as:

• Large tires with good grip and a rubber compound that has been developed specifically for Stromer and use on the road as well as winter tires that can be retrofitted for the wet, cold time of the year or snow

• A powerful light system consisting of a daytime running light, high and low beam, and brake light

However, the optimal weight distribution between the battery integrated in the frame and the rear-wheel motor also ensures this sense of safety when riding as well as optimal grip on the road.

How you can contribute to your own safety in commuter traffic

For those who aren’t already old hands in our community and aren’t yet familiar with the ins and outs of commuter safety, we have a few tips on how novice commuters and interested riders can further increase their own safety in road traffic. 

🚲Wear your helmet but be smart. Your most important accessory.

Depending on country, you need a specially certified helmet. The helmet should fit snugly and not wobble. It should be positioned horizontal to the ground, centrally on your head, and roughly the width of two fingers above the bridge of your nose. It should certainly not be ripe for displaying in a museum and ideally ought to be replaced every four to five years, as UV radiation and exposure to weather cause the helmet material to age. A helmet must always be replaced after a fall. Since a good helmet is essential to the safety of our community, we’ve developed the Stromer Smart Helmet together with Unit1.

• Luminous or reflective accessories such as vests, helmet covers, and luggage increase your visibility in traffic. You’re sure to be even more visible if these luminous accessories/reflectors are moving, e.g., straps, clips, or shoe covers on your pedaling feet.

🚲And if that still hasn’t proved sufficient to prevent a fall?

For this eventuality, which we sincerely hope will never occur, we will be adding a new alarm function to the OMNI from this fall, initially in Europe: Crash Alert. This function enables you to store an emergency contact in your app who is informed via the cellular network (SMS) in the event that you take a tumble.

How does it work? A sensor in the bike detects when the Stromer finds itself in an uncharacteristic position while you’re riding.

You then have 60 seconds in which to cancel the notification. After that, a message is sent to your stored contact, asking him or her to contact you to find out whether everything is okay.
