BFU recommends e-bikes with ABS

The BFU, the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention, has tested the anti-lock braking system in e-bikes – and it used a Stromer bike to do so.

To determine the influence of the system on braking response, emergency stops were performed both with and without ABS: on level ground, on slopes and on a variety of surfaces. The stopping distance, the locking of the front wheel/lifting of the rear wheel and the directional stability were all assessed.

Different mode of action than in a car

The results were positive: The tests showed that an anti-lock braking system helps to make the e-bike more stable and easier to control. That’s because it prevents the front wheel from locking, which means the rear wheel does not lift up as much. And that in turn leads to demonstrably greater safety.

Our Stromer bikes, then, are optimally equipped. And you as the rider are ready for anything.

The model page for the ST5 contains detailed information about how the ABS from Blubrake works.

About the BFU

As a center of competence, the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU) conducts research and provides advice so that fewer serious accidents happen in Switzerland – on the roads, at home, during leisure time and sports activities. And this by public appointment since 1938.
