The market leader for fast e-bikes up to 45 km/h overcame challenges presented by the pandemic in financial year 2021 and was once again able to slightly increase the number of Speed Pedelecs assembled and sold. Because Stromer has focused its product range on the urban commute, demand was affected by the various requirements and recommendations to work from home. With the support of the European private equity firm Naxicap, which took over myStromer AG in the summer of 2021, the Stromer team is continuing to focus on further solidifying their leading position in the market of Speed Pedelecs and capitalizing on the full potential of the brand. The focus will lie on the expansion into new markets, scaling of the business model and the development of new, innovative products.
To achieve these goals, Stromer has made investments in the future: A new ERP system was thus implemented, a B2B shop for spare parts set up and the staff increased to 140 people, mainly in the areas of quality management, purchasing, production and logistics. To ensure further growth in the market for fast e-bikes, myStromer Europe B.V. was founded on March 1, 2021, as the new EU service center in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. A logical decision since, with 38.5 %, Stromer has the largest market share in the Netherlands. In Stromer’s most important sales market of Belgium, the market share is 35 %. The Swiss Speed Pedelec pioneer was able to increase sales in almost all markets and remains the market leader in the USA, DE, F, B, CH, CAN, DK, NL and GR. The strongest growth was experienced on the American market with an increase of 49.5 %. Growth in IT, GR and UK totaled 107 %.
Stromer ST5: The first Speed Pedelec with ABS
At the product level, one highlight was the launch of the Stromer flagship ST5 ABS as the first Speed Pedelec with fully integrated, standard anti-lock braking system. The ST5 ABS has received multiple awards, including the IF Design Award and the ABC Mobility Award. In addition to its bike portfolio, Stromer is also consistently expanding its supplemental services. In Switzerland, for example, TCS mobility insurance with anti-theft protection is included in the purchase price. Stromer has also joined with national partners to offer financial solutions for innovative companies in Switzerland and Germany who wish to offer their employees a modern mobility solution or expand their vehicle fleet to include high-quality, powerful Stromer S-Pedelecs.
Assessment of the Stromer OMNI connect interfaces shows clear usage data: In 2021, a total of 67,943,668 km were traveled on Stromer S-Pedelecs (OMNI bikes and bikes with connectivity). Since myStromer AG was founded in 2009, around 100,000 Stromer riders have joined together to ride over 288 million kilometers.
Forecast 2022
The product highlights of the ST3 with Pinion gearbox and the concept bike with a range of up to 260 km will be introduced on the market in the spring and in the second half of the year, respectively. Since February, the ST1 is now equipped with an integrated daytime running light like all other Stromer models and the upgrade to OMNI C for full connectivity is available as an option.
From March 31, a new update for the OMNI app will be released. New features include service requests, designation of a favorite store, crash detection and specification of an emergency contact.
Stromer has signed the Shifting Cycle Culture Climate Commitment with the goal of measuring the company’s CO2 footprint and reducing this, particularly in the areas of production and employee mobility. Stromer considers itself a proactive part of mobility transformation and works to support a shift in mobility from car to bike.
In order to expand the existing financing options, Stromer is currently negotiating with additional leasing cooperation partners.
Like in many industrial areas, Stromer is also anticipating further bottlenecks in the supply chain in 2022 and is preparing itself for a complicated 2023. In 2021, Stromer was able to successfully manage the effects of the supply bottlenecks and conclude the financial year showing a profit.

Stromer ST3 optionally with Pinion gearbox and belt drive as well as ABS
The ST3 with the Pinion drive option is an extraordinarily dynamic S-Pedelec that is ideal for daily use throughout the year. The customizable riding position and the smart extras ensure comfortable, efficient mobility in commuter traffic. This bike is extremely low maintenance thanks to the Pinion gearbox and Gates carbon belt drive. The 820 W rear-wheel motor silently and dynamically provides assistance up to 45 km/h, and the 814 Wh battery furthermore allows up to 150 km of autonomy. Connected via cellular network and the free app, this bike's connectivity features GPS localization, Smartlock anti-theft function, individual sensor and motor settings, over-the-air updates, ride statistics and more. The new Concept Bike for long-distance commuters is a true global innovation. In addition to the new powerful battery with 1,440 Wh with a range of up to 260 km, which doubles the maximum range of Stromer Speed Pedelecs, the bike also conceals another pioneering component that will be officially introduced to the public on April 30. Available from the fall of 2022 in special Gold finish.
